Africa’s role in global geo politics is very significant and important. African union has a moto to achieve greater unity and solidarity among the African countries and African nations. And African union also make sure to defend the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of its states members.
In a current situation Africa is a small global player state. But its significance cannot be neglected in global politics. Its status has been elevated with times.
Africa plays a very important role in global politics due to having largest reserves in the world.The continent has 40 percent of the world’s gold and 90 percent of its chromium and platinum. The largest reserves of cobalt, diamonds and platinum and uranium are in Africa. It holds 65 percent of the world’s arable land and ten percent the planet’s internal renewable fresh water resource.
The dominant physical features of Africa are the Nile river, the Mount Killimanjaro, Victoria falls, Lake Victoria and the Sahara desserts. And we all know about africa’s largest wide forests.
The Nile river is the largest river in the world. The highest mountain peak in world is killimanjaro mountain.On 9th September 2023 African Union established as a permanent member of G20 group, just weeks after BRICS association welcomed the Egypt and Ethiopia as new members, alongside Saudia Arabia, Iran, The United Arab Emirates and Argentina. Both events signals Africa’s strategic repositioning.
African’s states individually or as collectively have been more assertive in defending their interest and demanding their fairer representation and rights in global forum and in multilateral institutions. Africa is currently seen as a strategic actor in global politics. And other traditional and emerging powers having an eye on Africa’s rich and natural resources.
That’s why we have seen many of states have now revised their strategies and they have started making alliance with Africa. The number of Africa summits and high level officials visits have increased in other states to make alliance and strong diplomatic relations with other states.
Africa’s repositioning in politics not only changes the power dynamics between its partners but also alters the politics, principle and procedures of global governance as well.Africa’s growing global significance has largely been changed due its resourceful geopolitical location in the world. As we all know Africa is much enriched in gold and platinum also it has large amount of forest specially Congo Basin Rainforest.
This is second largest rainforest in the world. China and Russia are specially taking interest in making alliance and trading deals with Africa which also very beneficial for African state to make an uphold position in global politics.The 2024 projection contains a lot of risk for Africa also it is opening up a lot of opportunities as well.
The issue that is most important to be rise during this year could be Sahel region, the geopolitics of the red sea. The risk posed by terrorist organization and the mainly economic growth and food security. Africa’s economy is expected to be increased in future years.
East Africa has the highest chances to have an economical growth but still we all know that Africa’s economy faces a lot of troubles due to high amount of inflation and food security.At last if Africa needs to diversify their economy, investing in human capital through education and health care also needs to improve infrastructure and education system of the overall state.
Africa is enriched in natural resources so the government can use this to promote their economy strategically. Also their forest can help in many things like making different goods and materials through them.
