Saudi Arabia is set to launch a groundbreaking global T20 cricket league

Saudi Arabia is set to launch a groundbreaking global T20 cricket league, backed by its $1 trillion sovereign wealth fund and led by Australian cricket figure Neil Maxwell.

The league, modeled on tennis’ Grand Slams, will feature eight traveling teams playing in multiple locations throughout the year.

With $500 million in funding from SRJ Sports Investments, the competition aims to complement existing leagues like the IPL and Big Bash while addressing key cricketing challenges, including Test cricket preservation and financial support for smaller nations.

However, approval from the ICC, Cricket Australia, and potentially the BCCI remains a hurdle. If successful, the Saudi-backed league could reshape cricket’s financial landscape and expand its global reach.
