Death toll of a civilian due to Naegleria Fowleri.

Karachi has recorded its first death of the year caused by Naegleria fowleri, a rare but deadly brain-eating amoeba.

The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, succumbed to the infection after reportedly being exposed to contaminated water. Naegleria fowleri thrives in warm freshwater sources and enters the body through the nose, leading to a fatal brain infection known as primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM).

Health officials have urged the public to take precautions, including using chlorinated water and avoiding nasal exposure to untreated water, as the city faces rising temperatures that create favorable conditions for the amoeba’s spread.
