Pakistan ranks 145th out of 146 countries in the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Global Gender Gap Report, with only Sudan ranking lower.
The report highlights a significant gender gap in employment and wages, with women earning 18% less than men and only 36% participating in economic activities. Comparatively, Bangladesh ranks 99th, and India 129th. Despite ranking among the lowest, Pakistan’s gender equality score of 57.5% in 2023 is its highest since 2006.
Over the past decade, the country has improved by 5.1 percentage points in economic participation but still holds the lowest global parity at 36.2%.
The report evaluates gender disparity in economic participation, education, health, and political empowerment.
Pakistan remains at the bottom of both regional and global rankings, with only a few countries, including Iran and Afghanistan, ranking lower.
